On Friday, July 12, 2024, students from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) took to the streets in a passionate protest following the tragic death of their fellow student, Denzel Omondi.
The students marched to demand justice for Omondi, whose body was found in the Gachororo quarry in Kiambu County, days after he was reported missing.

Denzel Omondi, a 24-year-old Quantity Analysis student, was last seen on June 25, 2024, participating in protests at the National Assembly.
His parents reported that he had been in high spirits when they last spoke to him on June 27, but shortly after, he disappeared.
His body was discovered on July 6, 2024, floating in a deserted quarry in Juja, Kiambu County.
An autopsy revealed that Omondi died of drowning, but his family remains unconvinced, suspecting foul play due to bruises found on the back of his head and legs. They believe he was abducted and killed following his involvement in the protests.
The students’ protest began after news of the autopsy results spread, leading to a large turnout demanding answers and accountability. Chanting slogans and carrying placards, the protesters called for a thorough investigation into Omondi’s death and for those responsible to be brought to justice.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has acknowledged the family’s concerns and is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Omondi’s death.
In a press release issued on July 12, IPOA confirmed that they have registered ten complaints related to unlawful arrests, abductions, and disappearances of individuals, including participants in recent anti-Finance Bill protests.
