The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting ended in chaos on Wednesday, July 17, after a group of youths disrupted a press conference just as Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka began to read out the group’s resolutions.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga had just excused himself for an “urgent meeting,” leaving Mr. Musyoka to relay the coalition’s statement.
As Mr. Musyoka took the podium, he conveyed Mr. Odinga’s apology for his absence, citing an “important meeting.”
Notably, other senior ODM leaders, including Mr. Odinga’s deputies Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, were not present at the press conference, raising eyebrows among the attendees.
The disruption occurred moments after Mr. Musyoka began reading the PG resolutions.
The youths, who had gathered at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, the meeting’s venue, stormed the tents and forced Mr. Musyoka and other leaders to leave.
The abrupt interruption caused significant confusion and concern among the coalition members, highlighting underlying tensions within the group.
The reasons behind the youths’ actions remain unclear, but the incident has sparked widespread speculation and concern about internal discord within the coalition.
