Prominent activist Boniface Mwangi is currently being held at Nairobi Central Police Station following his arrest in the Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday afternoon.
Mwangi was apprehended by masked police officers while participating in a march to honor the victims of the ongoing anti-government protests.
he marchers, dressed in matching white t-shirts and carrying crosses bearing the names of the fallen protesters, were moving through the CBD when they were intercepted.
Mwangi, along with other participants, was forced into a waiting police vehicle.
Mwangi’s wife, journalist Njeri Mwangi, confirmed his arrest and revealed that mothers of the protest victims who were also involved in the march were detained as well.
“They’ve taken Boni, and they’ve also taken the mothers of the victims who were shot. They’re all about impunity, they don’t care about who lives or dies,” Njeri said.
