A tragic landslide in Kapchebogel village, Kasist sublocation, has left a family of three missing early Wednesday morning.
The landslide, which occurred at dawn on August 7, swept away the homestead of a local man, leaving his 38-year-old wife and 13-year-old son unaccounted for.
According to police and rescue teams on the scene, the landslide affected three homesteads in the area.
While a man from one of the affected homes was rescued, there were no occupants present at the third house.
The rescue operations are currently ongoing with hopes of locating and saving the missing family members.
Local authorities had previously issued warnings advising residents to vacate hilly areas due to the risk of landslides.
The incident follows a similar landslide on July 29 on the Kasoiyo-Tenges-Saos tarmac road in the Borowonin area of Baringo County.
In response to the recent events, the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has closed a section of the 57.1-kilometre road for maintenance and damage assessment.
The closure is aimed at allowing contractors to repair landslide-affected points and ensure the road is safe for public use once again.
Heavy rains continue to impact various regions across the country, prompting officials to advise motorists to exercise caution.
It is recommended that drivers ensure their headlights are functioning properly and avoid speeding, particularly at night or in foggy conditions.
As the search and rescue efforts persist, the community remains hopeful for a positive outcome amidst the challenging weather conditions.
