Pope Francis has announced the appointment of Right Reverend Wallace Ng’ang’a as Bishop of the Military Ordinariate and Reverend Father Peter Kimani as Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Embu, effective immediately.
The official communication was conveyed by Archbishop Bert van Megen, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan, to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and published in L’Osservatore Romano on August 15, 2024.
Bishop Ng’ang’a, previously serving as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi, will now oversee spiritual guidance for Catholic military personnel and their families.
Recognized for his dedication and pastoral care, Ng’ang’a’s new role as Military Ordinary reflects the Vatican’s commitment to addressing the spiritual needs of the armed forces.
His appointment marks a significant transition from his earlier role, which began with his Apostolic Ordination and Installation on April 6, 2024.
Father Peter Kimani, formerly the chaplain of Kenya Prisons in the Archdiocese of Nairobi, will succeed Bishop Paul Kariuki as the Bishop of Embu.
Known for his active involvement in social justice and community development, Kimani is expected to enhance the Church’s mission in the Embu Diocese, bringing a renewed focus on community engagement and support.
These appointments underscore Pope Francis’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Catholic Church’s presence and pastoral care across diverse sectors and communities.
