On Thursday, August 15, Nairobi County’s Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, along with public health officials, shut down a notoriously unsanitary kiosk hotel located in the Bus Station area of Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
The establishment, known for preparing kebabs, eggs, and smokies, was found to be in a deplorable condition, with blackened cooking oil, strong unpleasant odours, and an overall filthy environment.
In a video released by Mosiria, the kiosk was shown to pose serious health risks due to its lack of cleanliness.
The closure of the hotel is indefinite and will remain in place until the facility meets Nairobi County’s stringent health and safety regulations.
“Closure is necessary to prevent any potential health hazards and to protect the well-being of our community,” Mosiria stated.
Mosiria emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining hygiene standards across Nairobi.
“Everyone has a role to play in ensuring that Nairobi remains a clean and healthy environment. We must all adhere to high standards of hygiene to safeguard public health,” he added.
The Chief Officer’s action underscores the County’s commitment to enforcing health regulations and ensuring the safety of its residents.
