Ugandan Police Deny Shooting Bobi Wine, Claim Opposition Leader Was Injured in a Fall

The Ugandan Police Force (UPF) has denied allegations that one of its officers shot and injured opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

In a statement posted on its X account on Tuesday, the UPF clarified that Bobi Wine’s injury was the result of an accidental fall, not a gunshot.

The incident occurred after Bobi Wine attended a thanksgiving ceremony hosted by Lawyer George Musisi in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District.

The event concluded without incident, but tensions escalated when Bobi Wine and his team embarked on a procession through Bulindo town, despite police warnings against it.

According to the UPF, they intervened to prevent the unauthorized procession, leading to an altercation.

It was during this time that Bobi Wine reportedly stumbled while getting into his vehicle, resulting in the injury.

However, Bobi Wine and his team allege that the injury was caused by a gunshot from the police.

“The police will investigate the alleged shooting and any related incidents to establish the facts,” the UPF stated.

The situation remains tense as the investigation unfolds, with both sides presenting differing accounts of what transpired during the altercation.
