Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse faced a heated situation during the burial of Magdalene Kalembe, the late wife of former MP Kalembe Ndile.
Tensions arose after Mutuse, who had recently supported the controversial Finance Bill, was confronted by angry mourners.
This led to clashes between Mutuse and other local leaders. Some attendees, reportedly displeased with his political decisions, especially his vote in favor of the Finance Bill, contributed to the unrest.
The confrontation escalated to the point where police had to intervene and escort Mutuse to safety. Mutuse later accused political opponents of organizing the disruptions to discredit him.
Despite the commotion, Mutuse remained defiant, defending his support for the Finance Bill, citing the need for increased government revenue due to the national debt crisis.
However, Mutuse clarified that the incident did not stem directly from the Finance Bill but from disagreements over the burial’s speech protocol.
He maintained that his relationship with most mourners remained positive, with the issue primarily involving a few individuals who misinterpreted the situation.
