During the public participation event at Bomas of Kenya for the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, political analyst Morara Kebaso was violently attacked by a group of goons.
The situation escalated rapidly as the attackers threw chairs at him and attempted to physically assault him.
Morara, who was there to voice his opinion on the matter, was forced to duck for cover as the chaos ensued. Despite being escorted away, the mob continued to pursue him, further intensifying the attack.
The incident, captured on video, shows a distressed Morara being cornered by the violent crowd. Notably, Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang was present during the attack, using his microphone to seemingly incite the chaos by shouting, “Hii ndio utamu ya Nairobi!”—a phrase that can be interpreted as encouraging the mob’s actions. Morara later addressed the situation, stating he was hurt and heading to the hospital, while expressing his frustration at being barred from speaking at the event.
This attack has sparked outrage across Kenya, with many condemning the violence and calling for justice.
It also raises serious concerns about freedom of speech, as such acts of violence send a chilling message to those who seek to express dissenting opinions.
This incident underscores the need for better security measures at public forums to ensure the safety of participants.
