During a recent funeral in Bahati Constituency, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika faced intense hostility from mourners while attempting to read President William Ruto’s condolence message.
The crowd, seemingly frustrated with the current government, erupted in jeers as soon as Ruto’s name was mentioned, forcing Kihika to plead for calm.
Despite her efforts to redirect attention to the grieving family, the residents’ dissatisfaction was palpable, a reflection of the growing discontent with the Kenya Kwanza administration’s unfulfilled promises.
Other Kenya Kwanza leaders present also struggled to engage with the crowd. Ndia MP George Macharia attempted to highlight government projects, particularly road improvements, but was drowned out by boos, forcing him to cut his speech short.
Similarly, EALA MP Kanini Kega opted to steer clear of political topics entirely, humorously distancing himself from the local political scene, which brought some relief to the tense atmosphere.
The heckling of Kihika and other leaders signifies a broader frustration within Nakuru County, once a stronghold of support for the ruling coalition.
Many residents, feeling let down by unmet campaign promises, are now using public forums like funerals to voice their dissatisfaction.
This shift highlights the mounting political challenges that leaders allied to President Ruto may face as grassroots grievances continue to grow.
