Central Imenti MP Moses Kirima has accused President William Ruto of misleading MPs on matters concerning the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
According to Kirima, many MPs were initially informed by the president that he had no involvement in impeachment efforts, but recent actions suggest otherwise.
He further expressed disappointment, claiming Ruto’s stance was deceptive, and many lawmakers feel misled.
The controversy stems from mounting pressure within Parliament, particularly from Mt. Kenya MPs, who believe Gachagua has outlived his political usefulness and should be removed from office.
These MPs argue that the impeachment is necessary for their own political survival, fearing Gachagua’s growing influence could jeopardize their future elections.
Some leaders, including those allied with Ruto, believe that the president should remain neutral and let the parliamentary process proceed independently.
They emphasize the importance of respecting the separation of powers between the executive and legislative branches.
However, others, like UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malala, have warned Ruto that meddling with Gachagua’s impeachment could backfire, potentially leading to his own political downfall.
The situation has created tension within Kenya Kwanza, highlighting the fragile relationship between President Ruto and his deputy, further complicated by ongoing political rivalries and in-house criticisms.
