Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally spoken out after being discharged from the hospital, accusing President William Ruto of betrayal and warning that Ruto should be held responsible if anything happens to him.
Speaking outside Karen Hospital shortly after Mashujaa Day celebrations, Gachagua expressed concern over the withdrawal of his security, stating that he is now without any protection, despite a court order preventing his removal as Deputy President.
He specifically blamed President Ruto for this action, stating, “It’s unfortunate that while I was in the hospital, my brother and friend, William Ruto, ordered the withdrawal of my security detail.
I never thought Ruto could be this ruthless, especially after I helped him become president.”
Gachagua further revealed that the government made two attempts to assassinate him. When these failed, the impeachment motion was tabled as part of a plan to remove him from office.
“State security agents tried to poison my food in August in Kisumu, but we detected and evaded the plot.
Additionally, NIS officers attempted to poison my food in Nyeri during a meeting with the elders, and I reported the incident. After these attempts failed, the impeachment plan was put into motion.”
Reflecting on his hardships over the past year, Gachagua compared his situation to that of Kenneth Matiba under former President Moi, saying, “When I look back, history seems to be repeating itself.
President Ruto wants to take me down the same path that Moi took Matiba, who was pushed to the brink of a stroke and eventually to his death.”
