chaos erupted in the Nyamira County Assembly when Speaker Enock Okero was impeached by a group of agitated Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
The tensions began after Okero blocked an attempt by Gesima Ward MCA, Atuti Nyameino, to introduce an impeachment motion against him.
This decision led to heated confrontations, eventually escalating into physical altercations within the assembly chambers.
The situation became so intense that MCAs physically forced Okero out of his office and escorted him to his car.
The impeachment of Speaker Okero is linked to wider political rifts within Nyamira County, following a failed attempt to remove Governor Amos Nyaribo from office.
Okero has been accused of siding with factions loyal to the governor, further deepening divisions among the MCAs.
His refusal to allow the impeachment motion to proceed heightened frustrations, and some MCAs alleged that he was mismanaging the assembly’s proceedings.
This turmoil is part of a broader struggle for political control within the county, reflecting underlying tensions between pro- and anti-governor factions.
Following the incident, Okero was indefinitely suspended, and Julius Matwere was appointed as the interim Speaker to oversee the assembly’s proceedings.
