In a recent address at the funeral of Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara’s mother, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah spoke out about the planned swearing-in of Professor Kithure Kindiki, the current Interior Cabinet Secretary and Deputy President of Kenya.
Ichung’wah took the opportunity to highlight his close ties with Kindiki, referring to him not just as a friend but as a brother.
He emphasized the importance of unity and the role Kindiki is expected to play in serving all Kenyans.
Ichung’wah expressed his confidence in the judicial system, stating, “I believe that those who serve in our judiciary will do what is right for Kenya.
In time, we will see our deputy president sworn in, fulfilling the hopes of Kenyans to move forward as one united nation.”
He reiterated that Kindiki’s service would not be limited to the people of Tharaka Nithi or the mountain region but would encompass all Kenyans.
Further demonstrating his support for Kindiki, Ichung’wah shared a personal anecdote about spending the previous Sunday at Kindiki’s home.
During this visit, they engaged in deep discussions and prayers for Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, showcasing their commitment to the welfare of their colleagues and the nation.
Reflecting on their shared faith, Ichung’wah assured the people of Tharaka Nithi that their efforts in parliament would ultimately be vindicated. He stated, “We are in a good place, and those of us who voted for unity in parliament did so out of love for a united nation.”
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse also attended the funeral and weighed in on the discussion.
He stressed the importance of wisdom over brute strength in governance, reminding everyone that Kenya is a democracy built on a constitutional framework established in 2010.
Mutuse highlighted that in a democracy, numbers are significant, referencing the overwhelming votes in favor of change: 282 against 44 MPs and 53 against 13 senators.
This statistic underscores the collective will of the people for progress and unity.
Overall, Ichung’wah’s remarks reflect a strong desire for unity and collaboration among Kenyan leaders, reinforcing the message that effective governance requires wisdom, cooperation, and a commitment to serving all citizens.
