Raila Odinga recently gave a powerful speech in Ethiopia as part of his campaign for the position of African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.

During the address, he emphasized his vision for a more united and prosperous Africa.

Raila’s speech resonated with his Pan-African goals, including enhancing integration across the continent, advocating for peace, and creating more economic opportunities.

He expressed his hope for an “Africa without borders,” emphasizing the need for African nations to work collaboratively, leaving behind linguistic and historical divisions.

His message earned him a standing ovation from an audience that included key African leaders, further highlighting the strong regional support behind his candidacy.

This campaign event marks a significant step in Raila’s Pan-African political ambitions, as he seeks to become a central figure in driving Africa’s Agenda 2063—a strategic framework for socioeconomic transformation.

Kenya, under President William Ruto, has also thrown its support behind Raila’s bid, with a structured campaign strategy in place.

A joint secretariat, involving experienced diplomats and strategists from both Raila’s team and the Kenyan government, has been established to secure endorsements from other African nations.

Key diplomatic figures, such as former ambassador Mahboub Maalim and others, are actively engaged in strengthening regional ties and enhancing support for Raila’s vision.

With the election scheduled for February 2025, Raila faces competition, but he remains optimistic about gaining widespread backing across Africa.

His campaign is seen as an opportunity for Kenya to boost its influence in continental affairs, and his supporters believe his leadership could bring transformative policies that address long-standing issues like poverty, conflict, and limited infrastructure across Africa.
