MP Junet Mohamed accused of sidelining his constituency

MP Junet Mohamed, representing Suna East, faces criticism from some community members who allege he has not prioritized local development in his constituency.

Leaders like Migori Muslim Development Committee chair Omar Hussein and former Mandera MCA Faiza Hussein have publicly accused Mohamed of mismanaging resources allocated through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), claiming he lacks substantial achievements over his decade-long tenure.

They also argue that key areas like school infrastructure and electricity access remain underdeveloped, leaving constituents frustrated and questioning his commitment to addressing these needs.

In response to these accusations, some local MCAs have defended Mohamed, emphasizing his achievements and commitment to the area.

For example, Suna Central MCA Samuel Obrien highlighted Mohamed’s role in representing the diverse interests of Suna East’s cosmopolitan population, which includes various ethnic communities.

Obrien, along with others, emphasized that Mohamed’s leadership is not based on tribal lines but rather on unifying the community through shared goals and objectives.

Supporters argue that his political alignment with ODM leader Raila Odinga has contributed positively, especially by elevating the constituency’s profile at a national level.

However, Mohamed’s growing influence within the ODM party has also led to friction, with some critics suggesting that he places national political interests above local concerns.

His high-profile role within ODM, where he has significant sway over party decisions and strategies, has bolstered his reputation as a key political ally of Raila but has sometimes led to discontent among constituents who feel neglected in favor of national political maneuvering.

These complex dynamics continue to shape public opinion in Suna East, where community members remain divided over Mohamed’s leadership and its impact on local development priorities.
