Kiambu Senator and close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Karungo Thang’wa, has issued a statement regarding the state of the former DP following a violent attack by goons during an event in Kiambu.
In his statement, Thang’wa described the chaotic incident as an attempted political assassination targeting Rigathi Gachagua.
However, he reassured the public that the former DP had emerged from the ordeal unscathed.
“This was nothing short of an assassination attempt,” Thang’wa asserted. “The people’s Deputy President is safe and unharmed.
We owe our safety to the brave people of Limuru. Let it be clear: we will not be intimidated or silenced—now we truly understand what’s at play!”
Thang’wa also refuted rumors circulating online that Gachagua might have sustained injuries during the fracas.
Viral images from the incident showed extensive damage to vehicles in Gachagua’s convoy and depicted him fleeing the burial event amid escalating chaos.
According to the Senator, the attack represents a covert attempt on Gachagua’s life, noting that his security team had to act swiftly to whisk him away to safety when a group of hostile youths turned violent.
Photos and videos of the incident, which have spread widely on social media, reveal the destruction caused by the attackers.
Reports suggest that several people sustained critical injuries during the clash. However, authorities have yet to release an official statement detailing the events or the factors that led to the violent confrontation.
This attack comes against the backdrop of rising political tensions in the Mt. Kenya region.
The fallout stems in part from Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment and his recent public criticism of the government and President William Ruto.
Gachagua has accused Ruto of orchestrating his removal from office, alleging that disagreements over key issues led to their fallout.
“The Adani matter was the root of the conflict between myself and the President,” Gachagua stated. “In Cabinet meetings, I was the only one bold enough to speak the truth.
Everyone else cowered in fear, bowing down the moment the President glared at them.”
As tensions continue to escalate in the region, the recent events underscore the high-stakes political battle unfolding in Mt. Kenya.
