political activist Kasmuel McOure faced a hostile reception during anti-femicide demonstrations in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
As he attempted to join the protesters, a group of irate youths booed and demanded his departure, shouting “Rudi home! Enda!”
This reaction forced McOure to retreat from the scene.
The protesters’ animosity towards McOure stems from perceptions of his political affiliations.
Many young activists accuse him of betraying their cause by aligning with the ODM Party and publicly supporting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
This association is viewed as a departure from their commitment to independent activism, free from established political influences.
In response to the incident, McOure addressed the situation on his official X account, stating, “I marched today, got booed, but still showed up. I always will. #EndFemicideKE.”
He further explained his decision to leave the protest, noting that some participants felt his presence was inappropriate, and he chose not to center himself in the march after receiving such feedback.
McOure emphasized his longstanding support for the cause, even in the face of past criticism, and affirmed his commitment to standing for his beliefs.
This incident highlights the complexities within activist movements, where internal disagreements and perceptions of political alignment can lead to public confrontations, potentially diverting attention from the primary issues at hand.
