Jeremiah Kioni, the Jubilee Party Secretary General and a close ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has responded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua months after calls for unity between him and Uhuru.
While addressing the media on Thursday, Kioni was asked whether Jubilee was open to forming an alliance with Gachagua.
In his response, he clarified that the party had maintained a clear direction since 2017 and that Gachagua’s recent shift in stance would not affect their plans.
“We are glad he has taken the lead in criticizing his former boss, but as for our direction, we knew where we were headed long before the 2017 and 2022 elections.
He must be cautious not to mislead people or create false hopes. Removing President Ruto from power requires more than just statements made in churches,” Kioni stated.
Back in May 2024, when Gachagua was still serving as Deputy President, he expressed a willingness to reconcile with Uhuru Kenyatta for the sake of unity in the Mt. Kenya region.
At the time, he stressed that the election period had ended and it was time for leaders to come together for the benefit of the people.
“Uhuru Kenyatta is our son. Let him join us so we can unite. Do you have any issue with him? The elections are over, and we should now work together as one region and love one another.
If we fail to unite, we will face serious challenges,” Gachagua said during the 2024 address.
Despite his critical views on Gachagua’s leadership in the past, Kioni commended his recent efforts to hold the Kenya Kwanza government accountable.
He noted that Jubilee had opposed the Kenya Kwanza administration from the start due to the hardships it was causing Kenyans.
“Our conflict with Gachagua was based on the challenges Kenyans were facing. We kept telling him he was introducing a poor product to the Mt. Kenya region, but he ignored our warnings and even insulted us.
However, we are now pleased that he has become the most vocal critic of his former boss,” Kioni explained.
Since his impeachment, Gachagua has taken a bold stance against the Kenya Kwanza leadership, frequently demanding transparency, accountability, and better service delivery from the government.
In December 2025, Gachagua hinted at the possibility of forming an alliance with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
During a public address, he praised Kalonzo and his party, indicating that their relationship had grown stronger.
“Wiper, led by Kalonzo, has shown us great respect, and we have decided they are our friends for life.
We don’t just say it for the sake of it—when we declare friendship, we truly mean it,” Gachagua stated, confirming ongoing discussions with the Wiper Party leader.
