Gachagua Reacts to Maina Njenga’s Disruption of His Wife’s Event
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has spoken out following the chaos that marred a prayer event hosted by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
The prayer gathering, held at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri, turned chaotic after Maina Njenga, accompanied by a group of youths, stormed the venue and disrupted proceedings.
The unexpected disruption forced Pastor Dorcas to hurriedly exit the event through the back, accompanied by Nyeri Deputy Governor David Wairui.
The prayer session, which was intended to focus on evangelism, began peacefully with attendees singing praise songs.
Pastor Dorcas was seated in the VIP tent when the commotion unfolded. Njenga’s group reportedly caused significant unrest, overshadowing the event’s spiritual purpose.
In a strongly worded response, Gachagua accused the government of being behind the incident, claiming it had sent Njenga to interfere with his wife’s peaceful gathering.
He expressed outrage over what he described as an unacceptable act of intimidation and a violation of religious sanctity.
“The government has hit a new low by deploying the leader of a banned criminal group along with his followers to disrupt a prayer event and desecrate the altar.
This act of desperation is deeply troubling,” Gachagua remarked in a tweet.
Following Dorcas’s hasty exit, Njenga and his group reportedly occupied the VIP tent where she had been seated, further escalating tensions.
This marks the third time in three weeks that Njenga has visited Nyeri, intensifying speculation about his motives.
The relationship between Gachagua and Njenga has long been fraught with hostility, with political analysts suggesting that Njenga is being used as a tool to undermine Gachagua’s influence in the Mt. Kenya region.
Addressing the crowd after the disruption, Njenga dismissed claims of political scheming and instead called on Gachagua to move away from ethnic-based politics.
He urged leaders to focus on fostering national unity and working collaboratively for the benefit of all Kenyans.
“We must stop focusing solely on the politics of Mt. Kenya and instead embrace unity as a nation. Kenya belongs to all of us, and it is time we worked together for the greater good,” Njenga stated.
The ongoing rivalry between Gachagua and Njenga continues to dominate the political landscape in Mt. Kenya, with their ideological differences and political competition fueling frequent confrontations. The latest incident is expected to deepen the rift between the two leaders.
