Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has recently addressed concerns regarding his repeated absences from court hearings.
He acknowledged missing three consecutive court sessions and assured the public that he will not disregard court orders in the future.
This statement comes after the High Court directed him and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohamed Amin to produce four individuals who disappeared from Mlolongo in Machakos County. The court had set a deadline of January 13, 2025, for their appearance.
The court’s directive followed an application by the Law Society of Kenya, which alleged that the individuals were unlawfully detained by security agencies.
Justice Chacha Mwita emphasized that any disobedience or non-compliance with the order would result in personal consequences for the officials involved.
The four individuals, aged between 29 and 35, disappeared under unclear circumstances, and their families have expressed deep concern over their whereabouts.
In response to the court’s order, IG Kanja has pledged to ensure full cooperation with the judiciary and to uphold the rule of law.
He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability within the police force and committed to preventing any future instances of non-compliance with court directives.
This commitment aims to restore public trust and demonstrate the police force’s dedication to justice and human rights.
