Protests Disrupt Traffic on Thika Road as Kenyatta University Students Demand Power Restoration
A section of Thika Road was brought to a standstill today as students from Kenyatta University took to the streets in protest.
The demonstrations, which took place in the Kahawa area, caused severe traffic jams after students blocked the road with boulders and set fires.
The students are demanding the restoration of electricity, which has been out for over a week at the university. According to the students, the power outage has caused significant disruptions, especially in the KM residential area where many students live.
Glen Karani, the President of Kenyatta University, addressed the situation, stating that the students would not back down until their demands were met.
“We have been without electricity for an entire week, especially in the KM area where most of us stay,” he said. “We are giving the authorities 30 minutes to restore power. If the situation is not resolved, we will take further action, including blocking Thika Road completely.”
The protests have caused a major traffic hold-up, with many commuters stranded for hours. As of now, police have yet to arrive at the scene, and the situation remains tense.
People affected by the disruption have expressed frustration at being stuck in traffic, with little indication of when normal traffic flow will resume.
