Oscar Sudi, the Member of Parliament for Kapseret, has once again criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over comments he made during a recent meeting with opposition leaders.
In a video posted on Wednesday evening, Sudi dismissed Gachagua’s assertion that he was crucial to President William Ruto’s success in the election due to his popularity in the Mount Kenya region.
Sudi emphasized that there were numerous other politicians from the Mount Kenya region who were more than capable of taking on the Deputy President role.
He pointed out that Gachagua was among the least preferred when the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) conducted a vote to select Ruto’s running mate.
According to Sudi, there were several contenders, including Ndindi Nyoro, Kimani Ichung’wah, Moses Kuria, William Kabogo, Ann Waiguru, Cecily Mbarire, Kithure Kindiki, and even Mithika Linturi, all of whom were seriously considered for the position.
Sudi explained that the voting process had taken an exhausting 20 hours, with Gachagua consistently failing to gather enough support, securing only four votes in each round.
Despite this, Sudi claimed that President Ruto chose to go with Gachagua as his running mate, even though the majority of those present were backing Kindiki.
Sudi argued that when the vote count showed that Gachagua was the least favored, the other politicians were frustrated and asked the President to make the final decision. In the end, President Ruto decided to announce Gachagua as his running mate.
Sudi further criticized Gachagua for his role in several controversies that led to his impeachment less than two years into office.
He accused Gachagua of being involved in corrupt activities while President Ruto was abroad, including the release of contaminated sugar without the President’s approval.
Sudi also claimed that Gachagua pressured the Health Principal Secretary to alter a tender for mosquito nets, which eventually resulted in the firing of the PS and several other employees.
This alleged misconduct was one of the key reasons cited during the impeachment proceedings.
Following his impeachment, Gachagua has been outspoken in accusing the President of involvement in various corrupt activities.
During his recent speech at the launch of new offices for the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), Gachagua alleged that he was removed from office because he refused to support government projects like the Adani deal and the Affordable Housing Programme, which he believes were fraudulent.
