A man has shared the heartbreaking details of his last conversation with his wife, who was on the American Airlines flight that tragically crashed into the Potomac River after colliding with a military helicopter.
The crash, which occurred near Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington, DC, involved an American Airlines plane carrying 64 passengers and a Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk military helicopter with three US army soldiers.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 29, and has left families and the public in shock as they await further details.
The commercial flight, American Eagle Flight No. 5342, was en route from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, DC. It collided with the military helicopter while preparing to land.
According to BBC News, 19 bodies have been recovered so far, but many passengers are still missing. The crash is even more painful because several members of the US Figure Skating Association were aboard the plane, further heightening the tragedy.
Among the many families affected is Hamaad Raaza, whose wife was on the flight. He shared the last moments of their conversation before she went offline, revealing his deep sorrow and hopes for her safety. In an interview with WUSA9, Hamaad recounted that his wife had texted him, saying they were about to land in 20 minutes.
