Protests Erupt in India Over Alleged Assault by Kenyan Diplomat’s Son
The parents and loved ones of a five-year-old girl in India are still in shock after a horrific sexual assault incident that allegedly took place nearly six months ago.
The young girl, a first-grade student, was reportedly assaulted by the son of a Kenyan diplomat who attends the same school.
According to The Print, an Indian media outlet, the accused is a class 12 student, meaning he is legally an adult. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, no legal action has been taken against him due to his diplomatic immunity.
Indian police told the publication that they are unable to act against the accused because of his diplomatic status. “The accused has diplomatic immunity.
We have reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). We can’t question or take any action against him due to his diplomatic immunity,” an officer explained.
However, frustrations are mounting among the victim’s family and the larger community, as both the police and the school administration have failed to take any meaningful action.
The school principal has also been accused of negligence after reportedly ignoring the complaint when it was first raised last year.
Mass Protests Demand Justice
The lack of action has sparked outrage, leading to mass protests outside the school on Friday, February 7. Demonstrators gathered to demand justice for the young girl, who was allegedly assaulted twice.
The victim’s father recounted the heartbreaking ordeal, explaining how they first became aware of what had happened.
“He sexually abused her in August last year. This has happened twice. One day, she started complaining about frequent urination, so we took her to the doctor. After an examination, two doctors confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted,” the father revealed.
Following the medical confirmation, the family immediately reported the matter to the school administration.
However, the school’s response was deeply concerning. “They called in all the students who traveled on the school bus, except the accused.
We were then told that he was on a field trip,” the father added, expressing frustration over what seemed to be a deliberate attempt to shield the suspect.
He further claimed that both the school and the police appear to be protecting the accused rather than ensuring justice for his daughter. “When we ask the police, they say the matter is now with the MEA and that legal channels are being followed.
We also requested the principal and the authorities to at least suspend the accused so my daughter could feel safe, but nothing was done. Instead, they suggested that I transfer my daughter to another school,” he lamented.
Allegations of Multiple Assaults
According to reports, the young girl was assaulted twice while on the school bus between August and September 2024. A formal complaint was eventually filed on September 18, 2024, under section 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (which deals with sexual harassment) and section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act (which covers aggravated sexual assault).
Initially, the child was too scared to reveal the name of the perpetrator. However, after a few months, in November, she finally gathered the courage to tell her family who was responsible. The family immediately informed the police, hoping for swift action.
Shockingly, as police investigations progressed, it emerged that the suspect may be a repeat offender. The victim’s father told The Print that four other parents have since come forward with similar allegations, claiming that their daughters were also assaulted by the same student.
“Four other instances have now been reported. Parents of four other young girls have said their daughters were also assaulted by the accused, but the school failed to act.
These complaints were brought to the attention of the principal, yet the administration did nothing,” the distraught father revealed.
Investigation Ongoing
Although the accused has not been arrested, he has been expelled from the school as investigations continue.
The Indian government, in response to growing public outrage, has assured that the matter is under review and that multiple legal aspects are being considered.
As the protests intensify, pressure continues to mount on both the Indian and Kenyan governments to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
