Gachagua Vows for Fresh Round of Protests

Gachagua Vows to Lead Protests if CJ Koome is Removed

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared that he will personally lead protests if Chief Justice Martha Koome is removed from office or arrested.

Speaking in an interview with Kikuyu radio stations on Sunday, February 9, Gachagua firmly stated that he would not allow Koome to be forced out in the same manner he was impeached.

He accused the government of plotting to oust her and warned that he and his supporters would take to the streets in response.

“They want to remove Martha Koome just like they removed me. We will not remain silent this time. If they proceed with this plan, we will go out, block roads, and make our voices heard,” he declared.

Mt Kenya Leaders Will Not Stay Silent

Gachagua emphasized that leaders from the Mt Kenya region will no longer sit back and watch as they are subjected to what he termed as mistreatment by the current administration.

He insisted that any attempt to remove Koome would be a direct attack on the region and its people.

“I was wrong to ask our young people to remain silent after my impeachment. They have now come to me and told me they will not tolerate such injustices anymore.

They attacked us in Limuru, and we kept quiet. The next day, they disrupted our meeting. If this continues, we will take to the streets,” he warned.

The former DP further revealed that young people from the region had expressed disappointment in him for initially discouraging them from reacting when he was forced out of office.

He now believes that silence has only encouraged more political suppression.

Claims of a Plot to Disband the Supreme Court

While addressing a congregation at PCEA Church in Meru on January 26, Gachagua alleged that President William Ruto’s administration is planning to dismantle the Supreme Court before the 2027 general elections.

He claimed that funds had already been allocated through the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to facilitate this scheme.

“There is a well-orchestrated plan to interfere with the Supreme Court before the 2027 elections. A budget has already been set aside for this mission through NIS,” he stated.

Gachagua’s remarks came shortly after reports emerged that Chief Justice Koome’s security detail had been withdrawn and later reinstated.

He linked the incident to a broader pattern where senior judges face similar treatment as a form of intimidation.

He alleged that these actions were a deliberate attempt by the government to frustrate Koome and pressure her into resigning.

“All these petitions being filed at the Supreme Court are part of the government’s plan. They want to force out the current bench and install judges who will rule in their favor,” he claimed.

Gachagua’s strong stance has intensified the debate on judicial independence and the growing tension between the judiciary and the executive.

As political battles heat up ahead of the 2027 elections, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold.
