Gachagua Accuses Ruto of Targeting His Children and Family
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of targeting his family as political tensions between the two continue to escalate.
Speaking on Wednesday, February 26, Gachagua claimed that his children and other family members had faced intimidation, threats, and deliberate attacks on their businesses since his impeachment.
Addressing journalists from Ukambani, Gachagua revealed that efforts had been made to cripple his children’s businesses as a way of weakening him politically. He alleged that landlords who host their businesses had been pressured and threatened simply because they provided space for his children’s economic activities.
“My children have gone through a lot. Their businesses have been unfairly targeted, and the landlords who rent out spaces to them have also been subjected to threats. This should not be happening,” Gachagua lamented.
The former DP also spoke about his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, recalling a frightening experience she endured when she was forced to flee after controversial Mungiki leader Maina Njenga unexpectedly arrived at her church service.
He expressed concern that his entire family was being dragged into his political battles, saying such actions were unacceptable.
Gachagua challenged Ruto to deal with him directly rather than going after his wife and children. He insisted that he would not be intimidated into silence, vowing to continue holding the government accountable.
“If the President has an issue with me, he should confront me directly as a man instead of attacking my family. My wife and children have nothing to do with this political battle. If he wants to fight me, let him face me head-on,” he asserted.
Gachagua further declared that he had no intention of backing down, insisting that his mission was to rescue Kenya from what he described as Ruto’s mismanagement.
“I made a choice to stand up for my country. I will not be silenced. My family understands that I am fighting for a better Kenya, and they support my decision. Change must come,” he stated firmly.
Since his removal from office, Gachagua has taken on the role of a vocal government critic, exposing what he claims to be the failures of Ruto’s administration.
His bold stance has unsettled many within the government, drawing sharp criticism from both Ruto’s allies and those in the opposition, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who has since aligned himself with the President.
Gachagua’s strong focus on the Mt. Kenya region has also led to accusations that he is promoting tribal politics. However, he dismissed these claims, pointing to his efforts to work with leaders from various regions, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka,
Democratic Alliance Party-Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee’s 2027 presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i. According to Gachagua, his political alliances prove that his ambitions are national, not tribal.
