Raila Issues Fresh Demands to Ruto After Second Meeting With Kenyans

Raila Issues Fresh Demands to Ruto After Second Public Consultation

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Thursday, February 27, continued his tour across the Nyanza Region as he engaged Kenyans to gather their views on the next steps for his party.

During a public forum held in Migori County, Raila met with various groups, including youth leaders, elders, business representatives, and other key stakeholders. The discussions focused on the pressing issues affecting ordinary Kenyans, with participants voicing their concerns and expectations from the government.

While addressing the gathering, the former Azimio leader criticized President William Ruto’s administration for failing to resolve challenges within the Social Health Authority (SHA).

He pointed out that the new health insurance scheme, which was introduced last year, had left thousands of Kenyans struggling to access medical care.

Raila called on the government to urgently address these issues by reviewing the system’s inefficiencies to ensure that every Kenyan can receive proper healthcare services without difficulties.

However, the ODM party leader also reiterated his willingness to work with President Ruto in forming a broad-based government—but only if the government genuinely commits to addressing the grievances raised by Kenyans. He made it clear that his goal was to push for solutions that benefit the people, not personal political gains.

Raila assured the public that he would compile all the concerns gathered from his countrywide consultations and formally present them to President Ruto. He emphasized that the people had entrusted him with their demands and that he would not let them down.

“I have carefully listened to what people are saying, and I can confidently say that they have given me a blank cheque—I can write any figure on it,” Raila remarked, highlighting the trust his supporters had placed in him.

“The people have shown faith in our leadership and are fully behind our mission. We will not betray their trust. Every decision we make must prioritize the best interests of Kenyans,” he added.

His remarks came just a day after he began his consultative tour in Kisumu County, where he met with youth leaders from the eight sub-counties as well as ODM officials from Kisumu. This followed his recent meeting with President Ruto at State House in Mombasa, where they discussed key national matters.

Shortly after his discussions with Ruto, Raila assured his supporters that he would meet them soon to deliberate on his next move. He also took the opportunity to thank Ruto for supporting his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position.

As Raila continues engaging the public, all eyes remain on how his discussions with Ruto will unfold and whether the government will address the issues raised during his consultations.
