Chaos Erupts Inside SDA Church in Nakuru West as Pastor and Elders Clash
A dramatic fight broke out during a church service at the California Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Nakuru West, leaving several people injured. The violent confrontation reportedly stemmed from allegations of serious misconduct, including the mismanagement of church funds.
Tensions Boil Over Inside the Church
The incident, which took place on Saturday, saw congregants—including church elders—engage in a heated physical altercation right inside the sanctuary. Women and children screamed in fear as punches were thrown, and chaos spread throughout the unfinished church building.
Reports indicate that tensions had been building within the church for weeks, with some members demanding financial accountability from the pastor. The situation reached a breaking point over the weekend, culminating in the shocking brawl.
Pastor Accused of Seeking Arrest of Church Elders
According to videos and images seen by Newshub.co.ke, one of the church elders took to the pulpit and openly accused the pastor of attempting to have them arrested. The elder claimed that the pastor had gone to the local chief’s office, seeking legal action against them over what he alleged to be an attempted murder plot.
“We understand the proper procedures for handling church matters. Why are you trying to mislead us? We will not be forced to pray without first addressing the underlying issues,” the elder declared.
“Why haven’t you asked us what the real problem is? Yesterday, you took us to the chief’s office, yet you know that church matters are handled differently. Were you hoping to have us arrested unfairly?” he questioned.
Fistfight Breaks Out in the Sanctuary
As the elder continued questioning the pastor, tempers flared. Suddenly, he could no longer contain his anger and stormed towards the pastor, who was seated nearby. The confrontation quickly turned physical as the pastor fought back, leading to a full-blown fight between the two men.
What started as a verbal exchange escalated into a chaotic brawl, with other church members jumping in to take sides. Fists flew, chairs were broken, and panic spread throughout the congregation, forcing many worshippers to flee through the exits of the incomplete church building.
Church Violence Not an Isolated Incident
This latest fight comes just days after another disturbing event involving an SDA church leader. In a separate incident, a senior church official reportedly stabbed a church elder to death inside the church premises.
The attacker allegedly concealed a knife inside a Bible, using it as a disguise to gain access to the church under the pretense of sharing the gospel. Once inside, he engaged in a confrontation with 35-year-old elder Francis Opiyo, stabbing him fatally in the stomach.
Following the gruesome act, the suspect later surrendered himself to the assistant chief.
