Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was notably absent when President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, March 7.
The MoU was aimed at fostering cooperation between Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
The signing ceremony took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, with key political figures from both Kenya Kwanza and ODM in attendance.
While Mudavadi did not make it to the event, he was occupied with attending the burial of the late David Kirinyet, the father of Principal Secretary for the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs, Aurelia Ronoh. Despite his absence, Mudavadi publicly supported the MoU and Ruto’s decision to join forces with ODM.
Following the event, Mudavadi spoke about the importance of unity between the two parties, emphasizing that it is aimed at bringing peace and harmony to the nation.
He expressed that President Ruto’s vision was centered on progress and the well-being of the Kenyan people, urging the country to fully back the President in his mission to unite the country.
“We must support Ruto in everything he does. His agenda is to unite Kenya, and his collaboration with ODM is part of his effort to drive progress. Ruto cares deeply for the people of Kenya, and it is vital that we stand by him,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi also mentioned that the Alliance National Congress (ANC) party, of which he is the leader, had decided to join forces with UDA, putting aside their differences to support Ruto’s leadership.

He added that as of now, he is officially a member of UDA and is committed to backing Ruto’s agenda.
In a further display of solidarity, Mudavadi revealed that President Ruto had sent Ksh 2 million to support the family of Principal Secretary Aurelia Ronoh after the passing of her father.
Mudavadi’s participation in the event highlighted his continued support for Ruto’s leadership, as he attended the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting shortly after the burial service at State House in Nairobi.
Mudavadi reiterated that Ruto’s endorsement was meant to put Kenya’s interests above political differences. He called on all lawmakers to prioritize the welfare of the nation and to work together for the benefit of the Kenyan people, emphasizing the importance of unity for the country’s development.

Among those present at the signing ceremony were former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir, and Principal Secretary for the State Department for Sports Peter Tum, among others.
The MoU also highlighted the need for an immediate audit of the country’s national debt, providing details on how Kenya’s debts have been utilized. Both Ruto and Raila pledged to work together to combat corruption and prevent the misuse of public resources, especially by leaders in government.
