Ruto Directs Renaming of School in Honor of Chebukati

President William Ruto has announced that Sabata Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County will be renamed after the late Wafula Chebukati, the former Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking during Chebukati’s burial in Kiminini Constituency on Saturday, March 8, President Ruto instructed the area’s Member of Parliament, Maurice Kakai, to facilitate the renaming process as a tribute to the late electoral chief.

Additionally, the president pledged that the government would fund the construction of 15 new classrooms at the institution to support education in the area.

ICT Hub to Honor Chebukati’s Legacy

While addressing mourners, Ruto emphasized that Chebukati had played a crucial role in shaping Kenya’s electoral system through technology.

As a result, the government would also establish an Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub at the school in his memory.

“I agree with your MP that the name of the school should be changed, and I will personally oversee the construction of 15 new classrooms,” Ruto stated.

He added that Chebukati’s deep understanding of technology was instrumental in ensuring transparency and credibility in the 2022 elections.

The president reiterated that, despite facing threats from powerful figures in the previous administration, the former IEBC Chairperson remained steadfast and used his expertise to deliver a free and fair election.

“The classrooms will be built alongside the ICT hub you have requested because Chebukati applied his knowledge of computers to uphold the integrity of Kenya’s elections,” Ruto affirmed.

“For the first time, our elections were transparent because of technology. You can count on me to ensure these classrooms are built in honor of Chebukati,” he added.

Ruto Pays Tribute to Chebukati

While eulogizing the late IEBC boss, Ruto described him as a history-maker, a trailblazer, and a national hero who always prioritized the interests of the country.

According to the president, Chebukati demonstrated exceptional courage, independence, and integrity during his tenure, especially in overseeing the 2022 general elections.

“A great man, Wafula Chebukati, has left us. He was a dedicated and principled leader who served the nation with distinction. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of public service. Farewell, Chairman!” Ruto remarked.

Government’s Commitment to Healthcare

During the burial, Ruto also assured Kenyans that his administration was working to resolve challenges within the Social Health Authority (SHA).

He expressed confidence in Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa’s leadership in tackling the ongoing health crisis.

“I assure you that we will succeed because we have a clear plan. So far, 21 million people have registered for SHA, including jobless Kenyans who had previously been left out of the health system,” Ruto stated.

The president reaffirmed his government’s commitment to making healthcare accessible to all, ensuring that even the most vulnerable citizens benefit from the reforms.
