Mathare Member of Parliament, Anthony Oluoch, faced a hostile reception on Tuesday when he attempted to address his constituents in the presence of President William Ruto and other top government leaders.
During a stopover in Mathare, Oluoch encountered an angry crowd that broke into loud chants of “Oluoch Must Go!” as soon as he was handed the microphone. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki had given him the opportunity to speak, but the audience quickly turned rowdy, making it clear they did not want to hear from him.
A video obtained by Newshub.co.ke captured the dramatic moment as Oluoch tried to deliver his speech, seemingly unfazed by the growing hostility around him.
Meanwhile, President Ruto, DP Kindiki, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, and Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu looked on.
Sakaja was seen attempting to calm the agitated crowd, but his efforts were in vain. The chants only grew louder, forcing Oluoch to cut his speech short and hand over the microphone to another leader.

Oluoch’s Troubled Political Journey
The Mathare MP is no stranger to controversy. In July 2023, he was arrested and charged with inciting the public to participate in anti-government protests. He was represented by a legal team of 20 lawyers and later released on bail.
His latest public humiliation adds him to a growing list of politicians who have faced the wrath of their constituents while in the presence of President Ruto. Many Kenyans have been using the President’s public engagements to express their dissatisfaction with elected leaders.
Other Leaders Who Faced Similar Treatment
Just last month, Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo had a similar experience when she was heckled at a political rally attended by Ruto. The crowd repeatedly chanted “Dullo Must Go!”, making it impossible for her to speak. Overwhelmed by the persistent jeering, she briefly addressed the audience and conceded with a short remark: “There is nothing much to say here; thank you very much.”
Before that, Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo also faced hostility in the presence of the President. During Ruto’s tour of the Western region, where he officiated the opening of the Luanda Modern Market, Ottichilo was met with a hostile reception. The crowd refused to let him speak, drowning out his words with loud protests.

Even Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok was not spared. On December 29, 2024, after a church service attended by Ruto, the Governor faced public rejection as the crowd openly expressed their discontent with his leadership.
