UDA Gives Update on Grassroots Elections in 22 Counties
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has provided an update on the upcoming grassroots elections set to take place in 22 counties on April 11 and 12.
Following a meeting held on March 10 by the UDA National Steering Committee and the National Elections Board, National Chairperson Cecily Mbarire announced that the party had already acquired 10,000 electronic devices to facilitate the voting process.
Mbarire emphasized that the elections would be conducted entirely through a digital electronic system to promote democracy and fairness. She assured party members that the system was designed to ensure transparency and efficiency, with results being available instantly once voting ends.
“UDA strongly believes in participatory leadership as a key pillar of democracy. A truly democratic system allows every citizen to actively engage in the political process,” the statement read.

“We have procured over 10,000 devices to ensure a seamless election process, guaranteeing that voting remains open, free, and fair, with real-time results at the close of polling.”
Additionally, Mbarire revealed that thousands of candidates had already registered to contest in the elections across the 22 counties. She urged more aspirants to take advantage of the opportunity and submit their applications before the registration portal closes on March 21.
Encouraging party members to take part in the second phase of the grassroots elections, she highlighted the significance of the process in strengthening democracy.
According to her, these elections will ensure that local voices are represented in leadership while also empowering leaders who are both accountable and responsive to the people’s needs.
“So far, 113,800 candidates have registered to contest in these counties. Registration remains open until midnight on Friday, March 21, 2025. Interested members can apply through our online portal, UDA.ke,” she stated.
She further described the upcoming elections as a critical step in strengthening democracy, allowing party members to actively shape leadership at the grassroots level.
Some counties have already completed their grassroots elections, while the next round is scheduled as follows:
- April 11 Elections: Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Turkana, Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Migori, Siaya, and Kisumu.
- April 12 Elections: Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River.

Mbarire concluded by reaffirming UDA’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections, ensuring that all members have an equal opportunity to participate in shaping the party’s leadership.
