Outrage as Police Allegedly Shoot and Kill Student During Protests in Elburgon
A Form Three student from Elburgon DEB Secondary School was reportedly shot and killed by police officers during a protest near Elburgon Police Station on Friday, March 14. The tragic incident has sparked public outrage, with residents accusing the police of excessive force.
Protests Over Mysterious Death of Local Mechanic
The demonstrations erupted as residents took to the streets to demand justice for a well-known mechanic, Godfrey Ngugi, also known as FB, whose lifeless body was discovered after he had gone missing on March 9. Residents suspected foul play in his death and accused the authorities of not taking the matter seriously.
According to witnesses, the situation escalated when protesters engaged in running battles with the police, throwing stones and attempting to storm the police station, which they believed was linked to criminal activities.
In response, officers fired tear gas and allegedly used live bullets to disperse the angry crowd. One of the bullets is said to have struck the student, killing him instantly.
Shockingly, the young student’s body was reportedly left on the roadside for hours before law enforcement officers eventually collected it and transported it to Molo Sub-County Mortuary.
Rising Insecurity in Elburgon
Residents have expressed growing concerns over increasing insecurity in the region. The killing of the student comes barely a month after the suspicious death of activist Richard Otieno in January, further fueling anger and frustration within the community. Many are now demanding urgent action to restore law and order in Elburgon.
“It’s not even a month since we buried our youth representative, and now another young life has been lost.
The most horrifying part is that the boy was shot and his body dumped behind the police station. What exactly is happening in Elburgon? Where are we headed as a community?” some of the residents lamented during the protests.
MP Kuria Kimani Condemns the Killings and Calls for Investigations
Molo Member of Parliament Kuria Kimani has strongly condemned the killings and directed relevant authorities to conduct immediate and thorough investigations into the deaths of both the student and the mechanic.
Speaking on the tragic incidents, MP Kimani described them as shocking and unacceptable, stressing that no community should have to live in fear of law enforcement agencies.
“I have reached out to the concerned authorities, urging them to conduct swift and transparent investigations into these disturbing events,” the MP stated.
Call for Calm Amidst Demands for Justice
While pushing for accountability, the MP has also urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands. He warned against acts of mob justice, emphasizing that violence only leads to further chaos and lawlessness.
“Although we demand quick and thorough investigations to ensure justice is served, I strongly appeal to the public to remain peaceful.
Resorting to mob justice, no matter how justified it may seem, will only escalate violence and worsen the situation,” he cautioned.
MP Kimani assured the residents that authorities would follow up on the matter and urged them to remain calm while the investigation is carried out.
