Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has made it clear that he has no issues with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, despite Raila’s public endorsement of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Speaking during an interview on Ramogi FM on Tuesday morning, Babu Owino reaffirmed his loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader.
He emphasized that, despite their differing political views, he would continue to support Raila and respect him as his leader.
Babu dismissed speculations that he was planning any form of political retaliation against Raila. He insisted that his commitment to the ODM party remained unwavering and that Raila deserved his respect.
“Political differences do not mean enmity. Raila Odinga is still my leader, and as my political father, I cannot fight him. I love Raila and will continue supporting him,” Babu Owino stated.
He went on to explain that in a family setting, a father might appear to favor one child over another. However, he pointed out that the person currently receiving Raila’s support—Governor Sakaja—had never been part of their political ‘house.’
The opposition legislator further clarified that he remained a loyal ODM member despite ongoing political disagreements within the party.
However, he urged the party leadership to prioritize its members before extending support to leaders from other political affiliations.
Babu Owino expressed his disappointment, noting that he had made significant sacrifices for the party, which should have earned him ODM’s unwavering support.
“I have been arrested eight times—no other Member of Parliament has faced more arrests than me. I have also been abducted and detained for three days, all because of my loyalty and dedication to ODM. I have given my all for this party,” he remarked.
His statements come in response to Raila Odinga’s recent endorsement of Governor Sakaja, a member of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), for re-election in 2027.
On February 10, just before leaving for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Raila urged Nairobi leaders to support Sakaja, emphasizing that this would help the governor effectively deliver his mandate.
“As I head to Addis, I want Nairobi to remain united. My man here (Sakaja) needs full support to stay focused and deliver on his responsibilities as governor,” Raila stated.
Babu Owino’s remarks make it clear that, despite any political differences, his respect and loyalty to Raila Odinga remain intact.
However, he also wants the ODM party to ensure that its members receive the recognition and support they deserve.
