Goons Allegedly Torch Wamalwa’s Car During Violent Clash
Residents of Malava have narrated shocking scenes of violence after former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s vehicle was allegedly torched by groups of goons said to be linked to powerful political figures.
According to several witnesses, the chaos did not involve locals but youths brought in from neighbouring constituencies specifically to cause disruption during the political confrontation.
Witnesses told reporters that the attackers appeared organised and were acting under the direction of influential political actors.
They claimed the group was well-coordinated, with some members taking instructions from individuals believed to be key figures within the region’s political space.
One witness said that although the gang leader attempted to conceal his identity, residents still recognized him.
The witness added that the politician believed to be connected to the attacks should let the voting process unfold peacefully in Malava since “the vote is here and not in Mumias.”
Another resident alleged that a second top political player also had a hand in the violence, saying the goons not only attacked Wamalwa’s team but also stole two briefcases before setting his vehicle on fire.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers arrived in a large convoy of more than ten vehicles. They were described as armed with clubs, crude weapons, and even guns.
Residents said the goons fired shots in the air to intimidate people, beat up supporters, and eventually torched Wamalwa’s car.
The clash reportedly occurred at Manyonje in Butali Ward, Malava Constituency, where Wamalwa’s convoy is said to have met a rival political camp.
Witnesses further explained that the first group of political supporters did not physically engage Wamalwa’s side, but a second group—believed to be under the influence of another politician—stormed the area and intensified the confrontation. After the vehicle was burnt, both groups allegedly left the scene in a convoy.
The violence did not stop there. DAP-K parliamentary aspirant Seth Panyako also reported an overnight attack on his Down Hill Hotel in Kaburengu.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday morning, November 27th, Panyako claimed the attackers vandalized at least five vehicles, slashed tyres, smashed windows, and forcefully gained entry into the hotel compound. He condemned the destruction, saying it pointed to rising political intolerance in the area.
Following growing concern over the escalating tensions, the National Police Service urged all political leaders and their supporters to uphold the law and avoid any actions that could provoke violence.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reportedly begun initial investigations into the cases of vandalism, property destruction, and the alleged politically motivated attacks.
These incidents have heightened fears among locals, who are now calling for increased security and swift action to prevent further violence as political activities continue in the region.
