Did Margaret Nduta Get Executed? Mudavadi Reveals Shocking Truth About Her Situation in Vietnam
Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has provided an update on the government’s efforts to prevent the execution of Margaret Nduta in Vietnam, shedding light on the progress made in her case.
Mudavadi, speaking at a joint press conference with Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Caspar Veldkamp in Nairobi on Wednesday, March 19, revealed that his ministry has been in constant contact with the Vietnamese authorities, working to stop the execution.
The Cabinet Secretary mentioned that they had received official documents outlining the charges against Nduta from Vietnam but have yet to receive a final response regarding her fate.
Acknowledging the seriousness of Nduta’s situation, Mudavadi emphasized the complexity of the case. He expressed cautious optimism, stating, “It is unfortunate that a Kenyan is in such a situation.
It is unpleasant, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly my Permanent Secretary, has been in talks with their Vietnamese counterparts.”
He further assured the public that efforts were ongoing to find a solution, with hopes that the execution could be prevented.
Mudavadi clarified, however, that the Kenyan government is not attempting to reverse the legal judgment against Nduta. Instead, the goal is to negotiate for clemency, seeking to secure a reduced sentence or alternative punishment.
The CS also disclosed that there are approximately 1,000 Kenyan nationals currently imprisoned in foreign countries for various crimes.
However, he noted that the government does not have detailed information about the specific offenses committed by each individual.
The update on Nduta’s case comes as many people continue to call for her repatriation to Kenya. Nduta, aged 37, was sentenced to death by lethal injection after being convicted of drug trafficking. Reports suggest that she was hired by a man named John to deliver a suitcase to a woman in Laos.
However, upon her arrival in Hanoi, Vietnam, she was arrested, and it was discovered that her suitcase contained illegal drugs. In her defense, Nduta claimed she had no knowledge of the drugs, but despite her protests of innocence, she was sentenced to death on March 6.
