Breaking: Ruto Fires CS Muturi, Reshuffles Cabinet in Major Shake-Up

President William Ruto, on Wednesday, March 26, made significant changes to his administration, reshuffling his Cabinet and nominating new leaders to key positions.

The move is seen as part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen his government and enhance service delivery.

Among the major changes, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi was replaced by Geoffrey Ruku, while Hanna Wendot was nominated to head the Ministry of Gender and Culture.

Additionally, former Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale was moved to the Health Ministry, swapping positions with Deborah Barasa, who now takes over the Ministry of Environment.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed confirmed the reshuffle in an official statement, emphasizing that the changes were meant to enhance efficiency in government.

“His Excellency the President has today instituted further changes to the senior ranks of the executive within the Cabinet.

By this presidential action, the Cabinet is set to achieve its full constitutional strength,” the statement read.

According to Hussein Mohamed, the reshuffle is part of Ruto’s broader strategy to improve governance and accelerate Kenya’s socioeconomic transformation.

The newly nominated Cabinet members, Hanna Wendot and Geoffrey Ruku, will now be subjected to parliamentary vetting. If approved, their names will be forwarded to the President for formal appointment.

“The nominees are expected to bring not only their vast knowledge and experience acquired throughout their distinguished careers but also the wisdom gained from their diverse life journeys,” read part of President Ruto’s statement.

Before his nomination, Geoffrey Ruku served as the Member of Parliament for Mbeere North. He takes over from Justin Muturi, who held the position for just eight months since his appointment in August last year.

Muturi’s removal comes at a time when he has been vocal in his criticism of the government. He recently accused the administration of being involved in the abduction of young Kenyans, a claim that sparked controversy.

Despite mounting speculation that he was considering resigning, Muturi had previously dismissed such claims, stating that he remained committed to ensuring accountability in government.

His dismissal, however, came just a day after President Ruto publicly criticized him over what he described as incompetence in handling legal matters.

Speaking on Tuesday, March 25, during an Iftar dinner with the Muslim community at State House in Nairobi, Ruto expressed dissatisfaction with Muturi’s performance, particularly regarding the delays in establishing Waqf—a charitable endowment where Muslims dedicate properties for religious and public benefit.

“The issue of Waqf has taken far too long to be addressed. There is no valid reason for the delay, and I had a problem with the Attorney General who was in office at the time.

He was fairly incompetent. But now, with a very competent lady in charge, I can assure you that the Waqf issue will be resolved,” Ruto stated.

As the reshuffled Cabinet takes shape, Kenyans will be watching closely to see how the new appointees perform in their respective ministries.
