Fresh Government Appointments Announced by Cabinet Secretaries

Several Cabinet Secretaries have made new appointments in their respective ministries to enhance efficiency and streamline operations. The fresh appointments were published in a gazette notice on Friday, March 28.

Treasury Appointments

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has appointed Thomas Gichuhi and Ben Kajwang as members of the Board of Directors for the Policy Holders Compensation Fund. Their term will last for three years, starting from March 28, 2024.

Mbadi emphasized that the two appointees will play a key role in strengthening the fund and ensuring effective compensation for policyholders in cases where insurance companies become insolvent.

Education Sector Appointments

Education CS Julius Ogamba has made several appointments to various education-related boards.

  • Dickson Andala has been appointed as the Chairperson of the selection panel responsible for recruiting members of the Board of the National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI).
  • Daniel Mugendi has also been appointed as a member of the selection panel, which will be dissolved once the recruitment process is complete.
  • Fuad Abdalla has been named as a member of the Governing Council at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) for a term of three years.
  • Halima Saado Abdillahi has been appointed to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Placement Board, where she will serve for the same three-year term.

Ogamba expressed confidence that the new appointees would bring expertise and experience to improve the education sector, especially in areas of curriculum development and university placement.

Interior Ministry Appointments

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has also made significant appointments in his ministry. He has appointed six individuals to serve as members of the Firearms Licensing Board for the next three years.

The newly appointed members include:

  • Jemimah Akinyi
  • Hussein Bakari
  • Edwin Wanjohi
  • Nancy Muthoni
  • Solomon Kibet
  • Susan Mugambi

Murkomen noted that the new board members will be instrumental in enhancing firearm regulations and ensuring responsible gun ownership in the country.

Health Ministry Appointments

Health CS Aden Duale has also made fresh appointments within his docket.

  • Roselyn Munga has been appointed as a member of the Social Health Authority (SHA) for a three-year term, effective from March 28, 2025.
  • As part of this appointment, Duale revoked the previous appointment of Zakayo Kariuki Gichuki.
  • Harisson Wangoro has been named as a member of the Board of Kenya BioVax Institute Limited, where he will serve for three years, starting from March 28, 2024.

Duale stated that these appointments are aimed at strengthening the healthcare system by bringing in skilled professionals who can contribute to the success of key health programs.

Agriculture Ministry Appointment

Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe has appointed Tabitha Lagat as a member of the Tea Board of Kenya for a three-year term, starting from March 28, 2025.

Lagat’s role will involve overseeing the growth and development of the tea sector, which is one of Kenya’s most important agricultural industries.

Labour Ministry Appointment

Labour CS Alfred Mutua has made a key appointment in his ministry, naming Anne Owour as a trustee of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Board of Trustees. She will serve for three years, helping to oversee the management of the country’s social security funds.

Mutua stated that the appointment is part of the government’s efforts to improve the efficiency and accountability of the NSSF to benefit Kenyan workers.
