Ruto’s New Cabinet Secretaries Declare Over Ksh790 Million in Wealth
President William Ruto’s newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries, Geoffrey Ruku and Hannah Cheptumo, have revealed that together they are worth more than Ksh790 million.
This announcement came during their vetting before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments on Monday — a key step they must go through before officially taking up their new roles in government.
Geoffrey Ruku has been nominated to head the Ministry of Public Service, while Hannah Cheptumo is set to lead the Ministry of Gender. As part of the legal vetting process, both nominees were required to publicly declare their wealth.
Geoffrey Ruku stated that his total personal wealth amounts to Ksh377 million. Breaking down his assets, he said they include land and buildings valued at around Ksh40 million, a family home worth Ksh60 million, Ksh15 million in sacco savings, and motor vehicles valued at about Ksh12 million.
The most significant portion of his wealth, however, comes from shares in a private company, which he valued at Ksh250 million. He did not disclose the name of this company during the vetting session.
On her part, Hannah Cheptumo declared that her family’s total wealth is slightly above Ksh420 million.
When asked about her net worth by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Cheptumo initially gave a vague answer but later provided details.
She said their wealth includes a home in Karen valued at Ksh100 million and another house in Nakuru worth Ksh15 million. She added that the complete list of their assets is quite extensive.
Although such asset declarations are a routine requirement for all Cabinet nominees, the public has shown particular interest in these disclosures.
This is largely due to the ongoing national debate on wealth transparency and the need for accountability from individuals serving in high-level public positions.
Many Kenyans are eager to see whether public officials’ declared wealth matches their actual lifestyles and earnings, especially given the country’s ongoing struggle with corruption and inequality.
