Ruto Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney General, and UDA Governor Unveil New Government Appointments
Two Cabinet Secretaries in President William Ruto’s government have announced several new appointments in their ministries, signaling a push to improve service delivery across different sectors of the country.
In a gazette notice issued on Thursday, April 17, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome revealed that she had appointed Irene Kyatu and Daido Aragon to serve as members of an Ad hoc committee.
This committee will be responsible for reviewing and delineating boundaries in the areas of Wang’uru and Sagana.
In addition to Kyatu and Aragon, other members appointed to the same committee include Ezra Ng’ang’a, Peter Kariuki, Peter Muraguri, Francis Muriithi, Richard Warui Kariuki, and Millicent Nkatha.
These appointments, according to CS Wahome, officially take effect from March 1, 2025. However, she did not disclose the exact duration each member will serve on the committee.
Meanwhile, in a separate government update, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor confirmed the appointment of Teresia Wanjiku as the new Registrar of Societies.
Although her appointment was gazetted on April 17, 2025, Wanjiku had already assumed her responsibilities earlier, starting on April 4, 2025.
The role of the Registrar of Societies involves key functions such as overseeing the registration, regulation, and monitoring of various societies.
This includes handling applications for registration, approving changes in society names, and cancelling those that fail to comply with the law.
Wanjiku is also expected to carry out investigations, supervise operations, and assist in resolving disputes within these societies, ensuring they operate within the country’s legal framework.
At the county level, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leader, also made a wave of fresh appointments aimed at boosting service delivery in the devolved unit.
Governor Bii appointed Kottut Kipkemboi and Victorine Kapkiai to the Departments of Water and Economic Planning, respectively.
In the same announcement, he named Elphas Kesio to the Department of Agriculture, while Mary Kerich was appointed to oversee the Department of Energy.
Eunice Suter will now head the Department of Social Protection, continuing the county’s efforts to support vulnerable populations.
To further strengthen county administration, Bii appointed Edward Lelgo as County Commissioner and Kenneth Muskiton as an official of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
Additionally, Ruth Kemboi was brought in to represent the Farmers Association, emphasizing the importance of agriculture in county development.
These appointments come just days after other Cabinet Secretaries also made significant leadership changes within their ministries to strengthen institutional operations and governance.
Among the recent appointments was Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, who selected Parmain ole Narikae and Carren Kerubo to serve as council members at the University of Eldoret and Karatina University, respectively.
These appointments are expected to support better governance and strategic planning in higher education institutions.
CS Ogamba also appointed Asteri Angolo to serve as a member of the National Biosafety Authority. Angolo will serve a three-year term beginning on April 11, 2025, contributing to the regulation and safe use of biotechnology in the country.
Overall, these widespread government and county-level appointments signal an ongoing effort to streamline operations, enhance transparency, and improve service delivery for citizens across Kenya.
