Breaking: Haiti Gangs Kill Three Soldiers, Several Injured in Joint Operation With Kenyan Police

Kenscoff, a calm and hilly suburb located southeast of Port-au-Prince, is turning into a dangerous zone for Kenyan officers who are part of the multinational peacekeeping mission in Haiti.

On Sunday, three Haitian soldiers lost their lives after being seriously wounded during a violent gang ambush.

The attack occurred while they were on a joint patrol operation alongside Kenyan and local Haitian police officers under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS).

A statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office of the Republic of Haiti confirmed the tragic loss, saying the soldiers died following the gang attack.

Additionally, four other officers were injured during the incident, though their current medical condition has not been confirmed.

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Government of the Republic announces the death of three of our brave soldiers, who died this Sunday in Kenscoff while carrying out their national duty.

These men were on the front lines, boldly facing extreme danger with courage, dedication, and dignity.

They died as heroes while defending the homeland they had vowed to protect,” part of the government statement read.

“These fallen heroes were more than just soldiers—they were proud sons of our nation, protectors of our independence.

Their ultimate sacrifice is a powerful reminder that the cost of freedom and security is high—and sometimes, that cost is paid with the lives of our bravest.”

Following the deadly ambush, both Kenyan officers and their counterparts from the Haitian National Police (PNH) immediately launched a major security operation in pursuit of the armed gang members.

Several gang members were reportedly injured during the counter-attack.

Graphic videos widely shared on social media showed soldiers in military uniforms removing lifeless bodies from a truck, as backup forces from the Kenyan and Haitian police teams deployed drones and advanced military technology to track down the attackers.

The region of Kenscoff has seen a surge in gun battles lately, as Haitian law enforcement continues its intense clashes with the notorious gang alliance known as “Viv Ansanm.”

This deadly attack is just the latest in a series of violent outbreaks, highlighting the serious challenges faced by both Haitian authorities and the Kenyan officers as they attempt to restore order in the troubled Caribbean nation.

In a separate incident, a Kenyan officer was shot by gang members during an earlier operation on Tuesday, March 25, in the Lower Artibonite region.

This area is located roughly 92 kilometres north of the capital, Port-au-Prince.

During that tragic event, gangs also destroyed three armoured vehicles used by the peacekeeping forces by setting them on fire. The destruction caused panic and fear among the deployed officers.

Later, Haiti’s Presidential Transitional Council (PTC) identified the Kenyan police officer allegedly killed during the operation as Benedict Kabiru.

His death further emphasized the growing risks faced by peacekeepers in their mission to help stabilize the country.
