Veteran Radio Presenter Edward Kwach Dies After Short Illness

Edward Kwach, a respected journalist and longtime radio presenter at Spice FM, has died following a brief illness. He had been receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi after being admitted two weeks ago.

The heartbreaking news of his passing was confirmed by family spokesperson Michael Okwiri, who revealed that Kwach died on the night of April 28, 2025.

According to the family, he had been diagnosed with meningitis—an illness that causes inflammation of the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord.

In an emotional statement, Okwiri described Kwach as someone known not just for his professionalism, but for his warm personality and deep love for music.

He added that Kwach made a lasting impact through his voice, reaching countless people across Kenya and becoming a trusted figure in many households.

“It is with great sadness that we share the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother, Carey, who left us on the night of April 28, 2025, while being treated for meningitis,” said Okwiri.

“His death is a great loss—not only to his family and close friends but also to the many listeners and fans who felt a deep connection with him through his work on radio.”

For the past two weeks, Kwach had been undergoing treatment and had recently appealed for blood donations.

His call for help was met with overwhelming support from Kenyans, who came together to assist him during his time of need.

Edward Kwach was a prominent voice on Spice FM, a station under the Standard Media Group, where he hosted the popular evening show, Spice Drive, airing every weekday from 3 pm to 7 pm. His witty nature, vibrant personality, and exceptional music selection made his show a favorite among listeners.

In addition to his work at Spice FM, Kwach also brought his talents to other media houses, including Urban Radio and Capital FM.

His career in broadcasting earned him admiration and respect in the industry, with many describing him as a trailblazer and a mentor to younger radio personalities.

Following the news of his passing, tributes began pouring in from across the country. Fellow journalists, radio hosts, and fans remembered him not only for his voice and humor but also for his influence in shaping Kenya’s radio scene.

On Tuesday morning, the family announced that preparations for his funeral are currently underway and that more information will be shared with the public in the coming days.

Kwach’s death marks the end of an era for many who grew up listening to his shows. He will be remembered for the joy he brought into people’s lives and the legacy he leaves behind in Kenya’s broadcasting history.
