A passenger bus belonging to Climax Coach Sacco was involved in a serious accident on Sunday at Kimende, along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway in Limuru.
The Nairobi-bound bus overturned at the notorious Kimende blackspot, leaving an unknown number of passengers nursing injuries. The full extent of the casualties is yet to be officially confirmed.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the driver was allegedly speeding when the accident occurred. Despite concerns raised by worried passengers during the journey, the driver reportedly ignored their pleas to slow down.
The Motorists Association of Kenya has strongly condemned the management of Climax Coach, accusing the company of consistently failing to prioritize passenger safety.
The association criticized the Sacco for what they termed as reckless operations and called for the immediate cancellation of its operating licence.
According to them, revoking the licence would help protect the lives of countless commuters who rely on these services every day.
Concerns have also emerged on social media, where both current and former passengers of Climax Coach have come forward to express their frustrations.
Many alleged that the company has developed a dangerous habit of overloading its vehicles with both passengers and luggage, compromising the safety of everyone onboard.
“Innocent travelers trust you with their lives, and you end up causing injuries and death because of arrogance and carelessness,” said one social media user.
“Operators who repeatedly put lives at risk should be permanently banned. Human life is too precious to be taken lightly.”
This latest accident comes just days after another Climax Sacco bus was involved in a crash on the Nakuru–Eldoret highway. In that incident, the bus collided head-on with a long-distance truck, adding to the growing list of accidents linked to the company.
Earlier this year, on February 17, yet another Climax bus rolled off the road in Awasi, Kisumu County. That particular bus was ferrying passengers from Busia to Nairobi when the accident occurred, resulting in several injuries.
Looking further back, in 2022, a 63-seater bus from the same Sacco overturned on the Koru–Muhoroni road on July 16.
That crash happened after the driver reportedly swerved to avoid hitting a boda boda rider, causing the bus to lose control and flip.
These repeated incidents involving Climax Coach have triggered serious concerns among Kenyans, with many now questioning whether the company is fit to continue operating.
Safety advocates and road users alike are calling for stricter government action to prevent more lives from being endangered.
