Police Investigate Jimmy Wanjigi’s Farm in Connection to Koimburi’s Abduction Case

The police have investigated a farm owned by businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi in connection with the recent abduction and dumping of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi.

However, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has confirmed that the farm was cleared after investigations found no evidence linking it to the incident.

According to IG Kanja, the probe focused on the Ruirua Coffee Farm located in Kiambu County, which is reportedly owned by Wanjigi. This farm was believed to be the place where the MP was dumped after his abduction.

In a detailed statement released on Tuesday, Kanja shared new information following the investigation. This came a day after a video went viral online showing Koimburi appearing dazed and lying on the ground.

The police visited the farm where the video was said to have been recorded, but their observations raised serious doubts. By comparing the plants and the layout of the roads at Wanjigi’s farm with what appeared in the viral video, the police concluded that the video was not filmed there.

“The police officers from Juja quickly responded and conducted a thorough inspection of the location.

After a careful comparison between the vegetation and road layout at the scene and those seen in the video, it was confirmed that the two did not match,” said the National Police Service (NPS) in an official statement issued on Tuesday, May 27.

The statement also revealed that during questioning, the farm’s caretaker, who looks after the coffee farm owned by Jimmy Wanjigi, said he did not witness any such incident occurring on the farm.

Moreover, the initial reports claimed that Koimburi was found by a random passerby. However, investigations showed that the MP was actually taken to a hospital in his own vehicle by a woman who acted as the first responder.

Questions also arose after the hospital that first admitted Koimburi did not provide details about the first aid treatment he received. This lack of information caused suspicions about whether the MP was tortured during his ordeal.

IG Kanja assured the public that the investigation was being conducted professionally. He added that all possible leads would be followed, and forensic evidence would be carefully examined to fully understand the circumstances that led to Koimburi’s condition.

As of Tuesday, May 27, the Juja MP was recovering at Karen Hospital. Opposition leaders, including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, have claimed that Koimburi was subdued using a chemical that left him unable to speak.

While IG Kanja did not outright deny claims that Koimburi was forcibly disappeared, he emphasized that the MP was aware the authorities were pursuing him due to a land fraud case.

“It is also important to highlight that Hon. George Koimburi has been under investigation for alleged land fraud. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had already given approval for his prosecution,” the NPS statement added.

The police continue their investigations, promising to follow every lead carefully until the full truth behind the incident is uncovered.
