Busia Woman Claims to Be Mary, Mother of Jesus

In a remarkable and controversial incident from Busia County, a woman has come forward with the extraordinary claim that she is Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, reincarnated.

Judith Nafula, a devout Catholic from Nangoma village in the Matayos constituency, says she received a divine revelation through the Holy Spirit, which confirmed her heavenly identity.

Speaking during an interview with NTV, Nafula described a powerful spiritual encounter where a radiant light descended from the sky, and within it stood Jesus. According to her, Jesus directly addressed her, asking where Mary was and then revealed to her that she was, in fact, the Holy Mother.

“A bright light came from the heavens, and I saw Jesus standing in the middle of it. He asked me where Mother Mary was and said he had been sent by his Father, God. I replied that I didn’t know her. That’s when he told me that I am Mary and that the world needs to know who I really am,” Nafula recalled.

Following this divine encounter, Nafula says she was spiritually guided to a nearby hill, where she stayed for two months in solitude, communicating with the Holy Spirit. She believes this time in seclusion helped her grow closer to her divine mission.

In a surprising development, Nafula’s husband, John Wekullo, claimed he also received a similar vision. According to him, he was told by the same divine presence that he is Joseph, the husband of Mary from the Bible. The couple now believes they have been chosen for a holy mission.

Nafula further claims that she has been given the power to perform miracles, including healing the sick and helping childless women conceive. However, her claims were not welcomed by everyone. Her local church leaders reacted harshly, branding her mentally unstable and eventually expelling her from the church congregation.

“They began calling me crazy. They said I had lost my mind and chased me out of the church,” Nafula explained.

Despite being rejected by her church, Nafula’s story has captured the attention of the local community and beyond. Crowds from neighboring villages have been flocking to her home, seeking blessings, healing, and prayers.

What started as a small following has now grown significantly, with some of her supporters believing in her miraculous abilities.

Nafula’s sister-in-law shared testimonies from people who claim to have benefited from her prayers. “People are starting to believe in her. We have seen barren women conceive and sick individuals recover. More people are now visiting her and giving testimonies of healing,” she said.

While her claims have sparked interest and curiosity, they have also drawn criticism and skepticism. Similar cases of individuals claiming to be divine beings such as Jesus or God have been reported in Kenya before, often met with public ridicule and accusations of blasphemy.

As Nafula continues to spread her message and attract followers, many remain divided—some see her as spiritually gifted, while others dismiss her claims as outrageous and misleading. Only time will tell how far her influence will reach and how the wider public will respond to this controversial self-declaration.
