Salasya Fires Back Strongly at Governor Mocking Him

Salasya Responds Strongly to Governor Mutai Over Mocking Remarks

Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has come out strongly against Kericho Governor Eric Mutai for ridiculing his decision to run for president in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Salasya emphasized that he has every constitutional right to pursue the presidency and should not be dismissed or looked down upon for doing so.

Salasya explained that his recent trip to Kericho was not meant to challenge or undermine anyone. According to him, the visit was simply a part of his broader nationwide tour as he continues to lay the groundwork for his presidential campaign.

However, his presence in the county seemed to rub Governor Mutai the wrong way. A video clip circulating online shows Mutai addressing residents of Kericho, where he openly scoffs at the idea of Salasya running for the top seat.

The governor went as far as saying that he himself would make a better presidential candidate than the youthful MP.

“Can Peter Salasya be president? Honestly? I think I’d have a better chance myself. When a crazy person shows up, let them speak and go,” Governor Mutai was heard saying in the video, triggering debate online.

Salasya, who has been traveling to different counties across the country to build momentum for his presidential bid, had visited Kericho on May 30.

On Thursday, June 5, he issued a detailed response, thanking the people of Kericho for welcoming him with open arms. He expressed surprise at the overwhelming love and enthusiasm shown to him, especially by the youth in the region.

“The people of Kericho truly love me. My visit wasn’t about fighting anyone or demeaning local leaders. I was there to share my vision and promote my presidential agenda for 2027. I was honestly taken aback by the amount of love and support I received, especially from the young people,” Salasya stated.

He also addressed Governor Mutai’s earlier criticism, particularly the demeaning label he used to describe him. Salasya defended his record as a legislator and highlighted the development projects he has implemented in Mumias East through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“To Governor Mutai of Kericho, it’s disappointing and disrespectful for you to refer to me as ‘bangi’. The kind of development I have initiated and completed in Mumias East using the CDF cannot even be compared with what you’ve done in your own county,” Salasya responded boldly.

In a separate statement, Governor Mutai sought to downplay the tension by stating that Kericho is a peaceful county where all visitors are free to express themselves without fear. He cautioned against exchanging insults, insisting that residents know their path and goals as a community.

“Let’s avoid name-calling or attacking others. Here in Kericho, we are peaceful people. We allow anyone to speak their mind. But as the people of Kericho, we know our journey, where we’ve come from, and where we are headed,” said Governor Mutai.

Salasya officially launched his 2027 presidential campaign on April 28, joining a growing list of aspirants interested in becoming Kenya’s next head of state.

His determination to run for the presidency has sparked both admiration and criticism, but he remains confident that the support of the youth and his nationwide outreach will play a key role in his political journey.
