Suna West MP Peter Masara in Mourning After Sudden Loss of Son
Suna West Member of Parliament, Hon. Peter Masara, is grieving following the untimely death of his son.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the political party to which Masara belongs, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Monday, June 30, through an official message of condolence.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to Hon. Peter Masara, the MP for Suna West, following the loss of his beloved son, Hillary,” read the statement shared by the ODM party.
The message continued, “We pray that God grants Mheshimiwa and his family the strength, comfort, and grace they need to get through this very painful and difficult period.”
News of the MP’s personal tragedy first began circulating on social media on Sunday, where residents and supporters from his constituency expressed their shock and sadness while offering their condolences.
The exact circumstances surrounding Hillary’s death have not yet been made public, but early reports suggest that it was sudden and unexpected, adding to the shock and sorrow felt by those close to the family.
This tragic event adds to a series of recent bereavements that have affected the ODM party in recent months, with several of its members and their families dealing with painful losses.
Just a few weeks earlier, on June 14, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro also suffered a personal loss when he announced the passing of his father — a sad occurrence that happened on Father’s Day, making the grief even more poignant for the family.
Earlier this year, on April 30, another tragedy struck the political community when Kabondo Kasipul MP Ong’ondo was fatally shot as he was leaving Parliament.
And in February, Malava MP Moses Injendi passed away on February 17 after battling illness that had kept him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for several weeks.
For Masara, this is not the first time he has experienced family tragedy. In 2020, the legislator mourned the sudden death of his brother, who was found dead in his apartment located in Oruba village within Suna West Sub-County.
At the time, it was reported that his brother had been battling tuberculosis, which likely contributed to his untimely death.
Despite the personal losses he has endured, Hon. Peter Masara remains a highly respected and admired figure in his constituency.
Recent performance rankings placed him among the top-performing MPs in the country, a testament to his commitment and service to the people of Suna West.
As the community rallies around him during this painful time, messages of sympathy and prayers continue to pour in for the grieving MP and his family.
