Mbadi Appoints Former Governor Hussein Dado to Key Treasury Position
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has appointed former Tana River Governor Hussein Dado as the new Chairperson of the Public Service Superannuation Fund Board of Trustees. This was officially announced through a Gazette Notice published on July 4.
According to the notice, Dado will serve in this important role for a three-year term, starting immediately.
“In exercise of the powers granted under section 10 (1) (a) of the Public Service Superannuation Scheme Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints Hussein Dado,” part of the notice read.
Hussein Dado was the first Governor of Tana River County, serving from 2013 to 2017. His tenure began with the introduction of Kenya’s devolved government system under the 2010 Constitution, making him a pioneer in county leadership.
At the same time, CS Mbadi revoked the appointment of Susan Mambo, who had previously been named as a member of the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board. While the Treasury CS did not give any reason for Mambo’s removal, he confirmed that she officially ceased to hold the position as of July 4.
In related government changes, Cabinet Secretary for Investment and Trade, Lee Kinyanjui, appointed Consolata Rop as a member of the National Standards Council. Her appointment also takes effect from July 4, 2025, and she will serve in the role for three years.
Additionally, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos made a new appointment in his ministry. He selected Henry Anyona as a new board member of the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation. Anyona takes over the position previously held by Consolata Rop, who has now moved to the National Standards Council.
The official notice stated, “In exercise of the powers granted by section 6 (1) (e) of the State Corporations Act, paragraph 26 of the Memorandum and Articles of the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation, read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints Henry Anyona.”
It further added, “The appointment is effective from July 4 and will last for three years. The earlier appointment of Consolata Rop is hereby revoked.”
These recent appointments by various Cabinet Secretaries are part of the government’s broader strategy to boost efficiency in public service and address new challenges in their respective ministries. By bringing in experienced professionals and making strategic changes, the government aims to strengthen service delivery across key sectors.
