President Ruto Mourns Pastor Dr J. Roy Stover, Celebrated Missionary and Community Leader
President William Ruto has led the nation in mourning the passing of Dr J. Roy Stover, a respected teacher, pastor, and community leader who served in Eldama Ravine for many years.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media on Sunday, July 6, President Ruto paid tribute to Dr Stover, describing him as a remarkable and selfless leader who had a lasting impact on the lives of many people through his ministry and educational efforts.
“Our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and the wider Eldama Ravine community on the passing of Dr J. Roy Stover.
He will always be remembered for his dedicated service as a teacher, pastor, and a devoted leader in the community,” President Ruto wrote.
“He touched many lives through his spiritual teachings and life-changing programs that supported the less fortunate. His legacy will remain with us for generations to come. Rest in peace, Dr Stover,” he added.
Dr Stover played a key role in President Ruto’s political journey, serving as the main speaker during Ruto’s declaration event in 2006, which was organized by Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma.
Born on November 15, 1940, in Farmington, Michigan, United States, Dr Stover later moved to Kenya as a missionary.
He began his service at Rift Valley Academy and later became the beloved pastor of AIC Eldama Ravine Town Church. He served the church faithfully until his death on July 6, 2025.
During his time as pastor, he helped the church grow from a small gathering of a few families into a thriving congregation of over 1,500 members, as confirmed by MP Musa Sirma.
In his own tribute, MP Sirma described Dr Stover as a man deeply rooted in the word of God and committed to uplifting the community. He noted that Dr Stover was more than just a preacher—he was a mentor, educator, builder, and a father figure to many.
He also founded the Elma Barnett Children’s Centre and Elma Kamonong’ High School, both of which continue to provide vital support and education to local children and youth.
“Rev. Stover was not only a man of faith but also a visionary leader who brought hope and opportunity to the people of Eldama Ravine. His impact will be felt for years to come,” said MP Sirma.
Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi also paid his respects, remembering the pastor as someone who dedicated his entire life to Christian service.
“His life was a true example of obedience to the Great Commission. He brought the Gospel to new places and led God’s people with kindness, humility, and unwavering commitment,” the governor stated.
At the time of this report, the cause of Dr Stover’s death had not yet been made public. However, tributes continue to pour in from leaders and members of the community who were touched by his life and work.
